Speech is about intolerance and judgement and how we can strive to replace those with tolerance and love. Granny D reminds Americans of what that means, and what values to remember to uphold.
Granny D speech given in Tallahassee, Florida about getting involved in voting. Speaks about our nation's spending, and the effect of our economy on tuition and students.
Students declare art as their major because they're lazy. They're 'slackers' who don't take college seriously and want the easy way out. Right? Wrong. During the fall 2014 semester I conducted an ethnographic study within the art department, talking to students who are minors, majors, or in the Bachelors of Fine Arts degree program (BFA). Through participant-observation and interviews, I began to better understand these students, who they are, what they value, and their goals. Rites of passage, language, and beliefs concerning nudity, sharing, and levels of trust among art students are also distinctive. Although art students live among other undergraduates, the moment they enter the doors on the third floor of the 'Fern' they are in their 'cultural scene.' This area 'feels like home' and allows likeminded individuals to come together in a vibrant subculture.
In Spring 2016, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Krakow, Poland at Jagiellonian University's Centre for European Studies. During my semester I also enjoyed serving as KSC's first intern at the Galicia Jewish Museum. Through my studies, I deepened my understanding of Poland as a country in Central Europe, but it was through my internship at the Galicia Museum that I gained a personal understanding of what it means to be Polish. Through several shtetl tours I came to appreciate the country's culture and its troubled history. I was also able to better understand the inner workings of a museum as it installed new exhibits and navigated its complete transformation as it expanded into new building space. Coupling an internship with my study abroad allowed me to make lasting personal and professional connections with people from around the world.
A well-designed internship program provides many opportunities for students to make connections and gain experience. In this presentation, I will outline my experience designing a company-wide internship program as an intern for Markem-Imaje. I researched the best practices, identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), and defined the criteria necessary for a successful program. This included real work experience, team involvement, and compensation. An internship ultimately should benefit both the student and the company; the student, by expanding knowledge and gaining skills, and the company, by adding youthful talent to the team. This presentation is for parents, faculty, students, and anyone looking to learn more about internships, how they work, and their benefits.
Have you ever wondered about the actual properties of complex numbers? Have you ever enjoyed or pondered at their computations and their geometric representation? This presentation will investigate some interesting properties of the complex numbers and their geometric representations. A complex number is a number of the form a+bi, where a and b are real numbers and i is the imaginary number such that when it is squared, it is equal to -1. These numbers are important and interesting because they allow us to extend the representation of numbers from one dimension into numbers in two dimensions, therefore we can represent complex numbers geometrically in the x-y-plane, which is a two-dimensional plane. After explaining and constructing the complex numbers, we will explore the Gauss-Lucas Theorem that makes clear the relationship between the roots of a complex polynomial and its derivative from calculus.
Organometallic catalysts are a diverse class of molecules utilized in the manufacture of natural products, pharmaceuticals, and other specialty chemicals. As further efforts are made to understand catalytic mechanisms and abilities, a broader range of viable and economical alternatives to existing production methods can be established. Currently, there is a need to design new complexes that can function selectively and under ?green?, or environmentally sustainable conditions, such as avoiding excess solvent and energy usage or reducing chemical waste. This research reports the synthesis and characterization of novel thiosemicarbazone ligands and their associated palladium(II) complexes. An examination of the catalytic activity of these compounds, under mild conditions (lower temperatures) with aqueous solvents (reduced hazardous waste), has shown them to be effective in cross-coupling reactions. The formation of new carbon-carbon(C-C) bonds through cross-coupling has simplified existing synthetic routes and made an extensive category of new chemical compounds possible to produce.
The recent escalation of cyber security threats has prompted business, organizations, and governments to prioritize network and information security. Everyday millions of people, including Keene State College, are at risk to these attackers, often with motives of profits, to their cyber espionage and sabotage. Consequently, developing profiles of these attackers? behavior has become crucial to the prevention and eradication of these threats. In the proposed project, we seek to analyze these attackers' behaviors through vulnerable monitored networks called a honeynet. Using advanced virtualization technologies, we will be able to collect forensic data from an attack at real-time - giving us important information such as geographic distribution and service communities - which can then be given to network administrators to prevent further attacks. Likewise, since the Honeynet will be built at Keene State College, the information collected will be transferred to a monthly report that includes the risk level of our network.
